Sauvignon Wine Locker & American Trattoria
One of our favorite restaurants, we’ve been many times for the charcuterie, dinner, and after show bites. Sauvignon features a discerning, regionally-diverse wine list. With nicer weather, we’ve recently been sitting outside on the balcony.
Although Sauvignon translates to savage in French, this restaurant is very civilized. There is sophisticated indoor seating and outdoor balcony seating. The owner is Chris Ciarcia, a local downtown resident and level two Certified Sommelier in the American Court of Sommeliers. Our excellent servers have been Justin and Steven. Below is a compilation review of recent visits.
Sea Scallops. This appetizer includes perfectly cooked sweet sea scallops with a slightly spicy salsa brava (usually made with olive oil, smoked paprika, tomato) and salsa verde (usually made with tomatillos and green chili peppers), served with fried peppers.
Charcuterie. Pictured is the “Small Board” – look how big it is. The beauty of this vibrant board is the ability to customize it as you like. We were guided among the offerings of cheeses and meats. Also olives, pickled veggies, bread, crackers, jams.
Pistachio & Frisee Salad. The lettuce is delicately dressed with a light tarragon mustard vinaigrette, and sprinkled with grilled corn kernels, tender pieces of asparagus, thinly sliced radish, and pistachio. Each bite offers a refreshing burst of flavor.
Lamb Sugo Tagliatelle. Flavorful and tender lamb, seasonal mushrooms, San Marzano and Pecorino cheeses tossed with fresh, delicious pasta. All of the pasta dishes are so comforting and indulgent.
Fresh Catch of the Day. We recently had a pan-seared succulent grouper served with a spiced maple butter topping, a puree of squash, and roasted vegetables.
Save room for dessert! We loved the nostalgic Butterscotch Budino, which is a butterscotch pudding with pepita seed brittle, Biscoff cookie crumble, salted caramel, and whipped cream. The house-made Gelato is also delicious.
